The Vonnegut House Begins Its Next Chapter on Lake Maxinkuckee

Others become part of the history of the communities around them.The Vonnegut House is one of those places.Perched on the eastern shore of Lake Maxinkuckee, this remarkable home has welcomed generations of families for well over a century. Originally built in 1889 as a summer retreat for the Vonnegut family of Indianapolis, the home has long been connected to the traditions of Culver, Indiana, and the lake that has drawn visitors here for generations.

Today, we're excited to announce that the Vonnegut House has entered a new chapter under new ownership.While ownership has changed, our vision remains the same: preserve the character and history of this remarkable property while welcoming guests to experience one of Culver's most iconic lakefront homes.

A Home with a Story

The Vonnegut family helped shape Indianapolis in the late nineteenth century through business, civic service, and community leadership. Their summer home on Lake Maxinkuckee became a gathering place for family and friends and remains one of the area's most recognizable historic residences.  Following an extensive restoration completed in 2015, the home thoughtfully blends modern comforts with the craftsmanship and charm of its original design.

Guests today enjoy spacious gathering areas, waterfront views, updated amenities, and the unique feeling of staying in a home that has welcomed visitors for more than 135 years.
