Built in 1899, Kemah Cottage is a historic Lake Michigan landmark set directly on the beach in Macatawa Park, one of Western Michigan’s most distinctive summer communities. With approximately 3,000 square feet of living space, sweeping lake views, a screened porch, and the beach just outside the front door, Kemah offers the timeless experience of a true Great Lakes summer cottage.

Days here are meant for the beach, the water, and time together—followed by evenings on the porch and spectacular sunsets over Lake Michigan.

The House

Kemah is one of the original private cottages dating to the historic Macatawa Park Hotel era. Thoughtfully maintained over generations, the home retains the character and charm of its 1899 origins while incorporating the comforts needed for an extended stay.

The cottage sits directly along the Lake Michigan shoreline, with soft sand, clear freshwater, and expansive western views. Its approximately 3,000 square feet provide room for families to gather while still preserving the relaxed, unpolished character that makes a historic lake cottage special.

The screened porch is a favorite gathering place—ideal for morning coffee, long summer afternoons, and evenings overlooking the lake.

The Neighborhood

Macatawa Park is unlike a typical Michigan beach destination. Historic cottages line two dramatic dunes and the community’s central flatland, creating a setting that has welcomed generations of families to Lake Michigan.

The community traces its history to the late 1800s and the Macatawa Park Hotel era, when the area became known as a summer escape on the lakeshore. Many families have returned here for generations, giving Macatawa a close-knit character that remains part of its appeal today.

Nearby Holland offers dining, shopping, boating, tennis, and the many attractions of the Lake Michigan shoreline.
